HI All !

My name is John Halliday, I am the Marketing Manager for Full Circle Training Solutions, and IT and Managerment Training company based in Radcliffe, Manchester.

I have worked in the IT industry for around 15 years now and for the past 8 years or so I have been working at management level.

I have my own seperate online business selling computer systems online and I also develop websites for small businesses in my local area, so I am spread pretty thin, but it keeps me busy and I like to keep busy.

I'm 34, married to my wonderful wife Julie and together we have a 21 month old boy called Jackson.

I came to the Business Mix to increase my circle of business contacts and jam as much information into my tiny brain as possible.

As for any free time ( HA! ) I get, I love DJing, creating music on the PC, taking the wife and lad to the park, walking, driving, watching footy and I'm also an avid online gamer and am so sad that i even run a gaming clan.

Ok, that's it ! For now anyway and If I can put a little bit back into this community, then my life is that little bit more fulfilled.

Best regards,

John

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

You certainly sound like a busy person!

Personally, I find you can get so much more from meeting people in person so I'm wonder if you have time to pop into Liverpool for an informal networking meeting some time?

Hi Will,

Thank you for yoru kind invite, but at this particular moment in time, Im locked in the basement with the task of hunting and farming the local businesses.

Yes, it's great to get out there and meet people, but because we are very new, my aim is to introduce myself to as many businesses in the Bury area.

When I get some sales in, my shakkles will come off and Ill be free to roam :)

But yes, i'd be interested to meet up at some time in the future. I am also heavily involved in e-marketing like yourself, so it's always good to meet others of the same ilk.

Had a quick look at your webby and noticed you have a GPR of 3 for your home page, yet some of your sub pages have higher PR? Are you involved in your own page optimisation ? As I'd like to find out more about how you came to get these results. See my own computer website has a healthy GPR on the home page, but less so on sub pages.

Maybe this is a discussion that shuld be continued via PM or another section ?

John

Hey John,

Indeed, search engine marketing (SEM) is becoming one of my specialist areas now so feel free to ask questions. What I'm finding is that the north west seems to be lacking in SEM expertise with most design agencies focused on the more 'traditional' side of web business i.e. nice looking websites and scripting. Obviously, these are important factors, but they won't do much if there's no audience.

I suppose the Business and the Internet forum (http://www.businessmix.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17) would be the most suitable unless you want to discuss in a more private capacity, in which case email is probably easiest.

As for the PR thing... For a good while (http://www.urltrends.com/viewtrend.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webstarcreation s.co.uk), the home page was a PR5. It's only with the latest PR update that it's dropped to a PR3. As you've keenly observed, the inner pages have a higher PR. One is even a PR6.

At the end of the day, PageRank is only as important as you make it. Rankings, traffic and conversions are higher on my list of priorities.

Anyway, enough blabbing from me!

Yes indeed, rankings, traffi and conversion is moe important but GPR is a solid measurement of google's view of each page's importance.

Anyway, back to the phones :)

As a business, what do you think is important to Google?

I would argue that satisfying its customers was its main concern. Without a userbase, the revenue dies.

What do users want? Relevancy.

What does relevancy mean in search engine terms? Relevant search results.

What is Page Rank? (http://www.google.com/technology/) It's a concept devised by Google to measure popularity i.e. the quantity and weighting of links around the web.

Does that mean there's a direct relationship between Page Rank and relevancy (rankings)? I doubt it.

If there's no releationship between Page Rank and relevancy and Google considers relevancy to be important then Google probably won't have Page Rank be a measure of a web page's importance.

If Page Rank was such an important factor to Google in determining a web pages then it wouldn't be logical to have lower PR pages rank above higher PR pages and yet they do.

Try liverpool web design (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=liverpool+web+design) for just one example. ;)
