You may recall some few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was going into network marketing with Christina for a company called Tiscali. Well a couple of weeks ago, our computer went down in a big way and all the information we had on it, emails, website addresses and contacts that we had patiently stored for the last six months went with it. STOOOOOOPIDLY we hadn't backed-up our data properly and nearly everything went down the pan!!! Even this forum address and password.

Anyway everything is now back to normal and we are back to where we were about four weeks ago.

Christina is still running the 'virtual secretary' side of things and I concentrate on the network marketing aspects and between us we seem to be doing alright as some of our fellow networkers use Christinas services to get stuff out and act as their secretaries, so we get two bites at the cherry! Smart eh. But we run that side of things at break-even. We wouldn't want to overcharge our fellow networkers.

We'll post regular up-dates as I know that there are some misconceptions that 'networking' is all about 'chasing your tail' and selling the product to your friends and family (who eventually stop answering the door and hiding behind the curtains to avoid your sales pitch). But whilst I do accept that to a
point, I have found that there are ways to generate business without talking
to anyone who is not interested. In fact the method I was shown by my sponsor, gets them to contact me!

That's all for now

Derek & Christina.

I sympathise with the loss of data thing. It's not "stoopid" - it's amazing how many businesses don't have a data backup procedure. MyDataSafe is a service that you can buy into that automatically backs up all your essential files every night so you don't have to fear Derek and Christina's experience. Buying into it direct will cost you £36 per month, but people who get their broadband service from Utility Warehouse Discount Club or UWDC 4 Business can add it on for £3 a month.

Eric,

Some questions about the back-up service:

1) What amount of storage does that kind of money buy?
2) What safeguards are there to ensure data security and integrity in both the transmission and storage of the data?
3) Where is the data kept?
4) What's the service level agreement on offer?
5) How many people have access to the stored data?

Thanks

Will,

I'll try to answer your questions in the order you posed them:

1) The MyDataSafe service supports a 10GB storage allocation.
2) In terms of transmission, various Encryption protocols including Blowfish and Triple DES are options. Storage-wise, data is held on industry standard secured servers.
3) UWDC are unable to disclose this due to security considerations. The servers are located at a world class co-location facility.
4) Technical Support is available as per standard Utility Warehouse terms and conditions. I've always found technical (and other) support from Utility Warehouse to be exceptional. "Which" consumer magazine has awarded them best UK customer service team two years running.
5) Only authorised individuals but again specific details cannot be confirmed.

When I've posted the requisite 5 posts, I'll let you have a website address where you can find out more about the service.
