I was watching a Clint Eastwood film from one of the “Dirty Harry” series over Christmas and at the end of the film he said those words, or something similar that got me thinking.

You really have got to know your limitations, particularly in your business life and that is one of the first steps in being successful.

I recently came across someone new to network marketing who was complaining about his youthful looks and how he was finding it difficult to get people to take him seriously! (if only I had that problem). But what really interested me was the methods he was using to recruit. It seemed so old-fashioned. He was still trying to recruit face-to-face by visiting people and organising meetings. Which was the method I was using. That method is o.k if you want to get ahead slowly, but he didn't seem to understand that the only way to make serious money in networking is to get your message across to a lot of people very quickly and recruit a massive down line to take advantage of 'residual income'. It is a numbers game, pure and simple.

He was recruiting one at a time, driving to meet them at their home, spending a couple of hours with them and then driving home. After all that he wasn't even sure that person would be a good team member.

I used to do that until I was shown the easy way to recruit.

Now I simply advertise, give them my website address, ask them to fill in an on-line autoresponder and follow them up until they decide to join or not. My 'drop off' rate was about 70-80% before I used my new methods, but now because I am more selective, I only lose about one in ten new recruits.

I never make it easy for anyone to join. In fact I make them jump through one or two hoops first. Then if they show some determination I contact them. Even then they have to show some drive and determination for me to spend any time with them.

I never visit them at home or anywhere else as all contact is done via the 'phone or the internet. As I have people all over the country, my days would be taken up driving up and down motorways. And I have much more interesting things to do with my time....like spending it with my family and friends. And the main reason I got into networking is so that I wouldn't have to work long hours and spend hours a day commuting.

And of course, I have more time to spend training my existing team and recruiting for the next batch of new downlines.

If anyone would like to find out more about how I work my network, please get in touch.

Derek

Happy New Year.
