Hi all

My name is Jenny and I run my own home based Abta bonded travel business. I have previously worked for well known high street Travel Agencies, but I have always liked the idea of being my own boss and being able to go the extra mile for my customers and almost 3 years ago I took the plunge and became a travel industry homeworker - selling holidays on teletext and over the internet as well as in my local community.

I have joined this forum not only to have the oppertunity to tell people who I am and what I do but also to be able to learn about what ideas work for other peoples businesses and to share experiences with like mind professionals and entrepreneurs!

In my personal life I am happily married with 2 beautiful (but unfortunately very hormonal) teenage girls, I love to chill out watching TV and drive my family mad channel hopping all the time. I enjoy cooking and find a lot of inspiration from the TV when I stop long enough on one side to see a whole recipe!!

PS I am now the big 40 and consider that I currently having the best time of my life - does this sound like anyone out there??

Hi Jen and welcome aboard! :)

It's great to hear that you're enjoying life and spending your days working how you want to work. I'm sure there are lots of people who would love to be able to break away from the daily commute and work from home as you do.

Do you find you work more hours per week since you've become your own boss?

Hi Will - nice to meet you..

Yes I definately work more hours but firstly I figure when I worked in an agency I had to work 40 hours a week - I had to be there 15 mins early and usualy was 10-20 mins late getting out - approx 43 hours - then the journey to and from work adds another hour a day - 48 hours and then I had a lunch hour which I had to take but did nothing much with (usually wandering amlessly around the shops spending money on things I did not need) which makes a total of 53 hours - I now work about 50-55 hours but can stay in bed till 8.40 if I want to, never have to scrape ice off the car or go out in the rain, when its busy I can work late but if its quiet I can slope off early - you really can't bet it lol!!

What do you do??

Well, Jen, if it's Internet marketing related then I've probably a hand in it ;)

Website development and website promotion (getting to the top of search engines for targeted terms etc) are my primary activities.

It's easy enough to build a website. It's another thing to get traffic to it and get a return on one's investment!
