Since I've been involved with the Liverpool Business Bricks group I've received a number of enquiries from small business owners, keen to find out about the group and get involved. For one reason or another, not all of those enquiries turn into appearances.

For anyone who is weighing up the pros and cons of 'networking' groups such as our let me tell you some of the potential benefits that you can get:

"No man is an island." - The same can be said for businesses. You can't expect to know everything, but by meeting with others you get to tap into their specialist knowledge. You get to learn from the experience of other small business owners from your local area, trading in the same markets as you.

You get to share your own knowledge - Improve your karma by helping others to improve their business.

Let people know you exist - Unless you're paying for prime time TV advertising and billboard space it's likely that you've still got some audiences to reach. By making yourself known to other small businesses in your area you can extend your reach at no cost. Make no mistake, our members have recommended each other to other people and that means more business generated through the best medium - personal recommendation by word of mouth.

If you love being your own boss then you'll probably also love telling people about your business. Well, if you want to talk, we're here to listen!

Make an appearance at our Liverpool meeting and you'll get a special forum badge that distinguishes you as a "Liverpool Brickie". This badge gets you access to a private forum and who knows what goodies lie in wait for you there...

There is no hard sell. No pressure. We meet once a month on a weekday evening in the Liverpool city centre and chat in a very relaxed setting. You don't need to have any prior experience in networking or presentation giving, it's very informal.

If you've got any concerns or if you want to know more then just ask.

It really is win, win!

Will's said it all really - the meeting is informal. You want to wear a suit? Fine, wear a suit. Prefer jeans and a t-shirt? Wear them. The venue which is 3345 Parr Street has a relaxed dress code (but may draw the line at sportswear) so don't think you'll stick out like a sore thumb. Blimey, you should see some of the sights you get there sometimes! :D

At our last meeting we discussed the word/phrase 'networking' and what it images conjours up. Well, 6am breakfasts, suits, presentations, rolled up trouser leg & a funny handshake tends to spring to mind and thats exactly what the brickie meeting *isn't*.

We meet up @ 7pm (after work) and relax in 3345's bar - you can even get there early and have something to eat if you want to. Grab a coffee/coke/beer and chat about things.

Got a question about selling/promoting/advertising or what colour to paint your office? Ask it here - we're all willing to advise. And its free. Costs nothing but your drink.

Want to get some clients? Well, within the group we want to give first refusal to fellow members before going elsewhere, so its really in your best interests to get down to 3345!

See, there's not much point just looking through the forum every now and then - sure you pick up some little nuggets of wisdom from postings, but if you get down to one of the group meetups then you'll get nuggets by the handful (and they're nuggets of gold, not chicken).

So get yourself down for a chat and a beer - and see just how it could benefit your business... :)
